The dates during the year
| What | When | If you miss it |
|---|---|---|
| MTV first installment | During January | A late payment surcharge accrues |
| MTV second installment | During July | A late payment surcharge accrues |
| Traffic insurance | Every year, before the policy's expiration date | The next premium goes up by 5 percent for every 30 days of delay; the vehicle is barred from traffic |
| Kasko (optional) | Every year, before the policy's expiration date | The vehicle is left without cover |
| Vehicle inspection | For cars at the end of the third year, then every two years; for commercial vehicles every year | The inspection fee goes up by 5 percent for each month of delay |
| Exhaust emission test | At the same intervals as the inspection | A vehicle without a valid test is recorded as having a serious defect at inspection |
The dates depend on each other
Missing one of these dates often affects another one as well:
- A vehicle with MTV debt or traffic fines is not accepted for inspection.
- A vehicle without valid traffic insurance is not inspected.
- A vehicle without a valid exhaust emission test cannot pass the inspection.
- A vehicle with MTV debt cannot be sold or transferred.
That is why the order matters in an inspection year: sorting out debts and insurance first, then the exhaust test, and the inspection appointment last makes things easier.
Dates that are not fixed
The MTV installments fall in the same months for everyone. Insurance, kasko and inspection dates, on the other hand, are specific to the vehicle: the next date is set by the day you took out the policy or the day you took the vehicle to inspection. If you bought the vehicle used, you need to find these dates from the registration certificate, the policies and the inspection report and note them somewhere.
Dates beyond the vehicle
If you also own a home, see the yearly deadlines for property owners for dates such as DASK, property tax and building dues.
