The dates vehicle and property owners in Turkey need to keep track of during the year: when they fall, what happens if you miss them, and where the official source is.
Yearly Deadlines for Vehicle Owners in TurkeyA vehicle owner in Turkey has at least three fixed dates a year: the MTV (motor vehicle tax) installments in January and July, and traffic insurance on the day the policy expires. On top of these come the kasko renewal and, every two years, the inspection and the exhaust emission test.
Yearly Deadlines for Property Owners in TurkeyA homeowner in Turkey has two fixed dates a year: the property tax installments, payable by the end of May and by the end of November. On top of these come DASK (compulsory earthquake insurance), renewed every year, optional home insurance, and the building dues and bills paid every month.
Vehicle Inspection in Turkey: Intervals, Late Fees and PreparationPrivate cars are inspected at the end of their third year and every two years after that; commercial vehicles such as taxis, trucks and buses at the end of their first year and every year after that. If you miss the deadline, the inspection fee goes up by 5 percent for each month of delay.
MTV (Motor Vehicle Tax) in Turkey: Installment Dates and PaymentMotor vehicle tax (MTV) is paid every year in two equal installments, in January and in July. A late payment surcharge accrues on an installment that is not paid on time; a vehicle with tax debt cannot be inspected, sold or transferred.
Traffic Insurance and Kasko in Turkey: Renewal DatesCompulsory traffic insurance, the third-party liability cover, is renewed every year. For every 30 days you delay the renewal, the premium of the next policy goes up by 5 percent; a vehicle without insurance is barred from traffic and is not accepted for inspection. Kasko, the comprehensive cover for your own vehicle, is optional, but its cover ends on the day the policy expires.
DASK: Compulsory Earthquake Insurance in Turkey and Its RenewalCompulsory Earthquake Insurance (DASK) is mandatory for homes within municipal boundaries and is renewed every year. If you renew the policy within 30 days after it expires, a 20 percent discount applies. Without a valid DASK policy, title deed transactions cannot be carried out and electricity and water accounts cannot be opened.
Property Tax in Turkey: Installment Dates and DeclarationProperty tax is paid in two equal installments a year: the first in March, April and May, the second in November. The tax is paid to the municipality where the property is located; a late payment surcharge accrues on an installment that is not paid on time.
Building Dues and Bills in TurkeyBuilding dues (aidat) are set according to the operating budget approved by the unit owners and are mostly paid every month. Under the Condominium Ownership Law, dues paid late are charged late payment compensation of 5 percent a month. The due date of a bill, on the other hand, is written on each bill.
A Calendar App or Boha Reminder? If you have one or two dates a year, the calendar on your phone is enough. When the number of vehicles and properties grows, when you want to keep policies and receipts next to the date, or when you do not want to correct yearly renewal dates by hand each time, Boha Reminder makes things easier.
